Now as you all know I am follower of the Liberal Democrat cause but, to be frank, they all need to join the real world sometimes.
Narberth, in West Wales, is not what I would call the real world, but following our ‘catch of the day’ at a local hotel, we set off the next morning to organise our Election Planning Workshop for Mid and West Wales Liberal Democrat constituency parties.
Before the age of the sat-nav people used to find their own way to events using things called maps and directions.
Unfortunately, we got lost on the way to the training, and were about to ask a local passer-by for directions when we were almost knocked off the road by a small, dirty car with a person with a mop of hair, that made it unclear as to their sex, driving into the side of us.
At once I said, ‘Follow that car! The driving is so bad it just has to be a Liberal Democrat.’ So, for about 5 miles we followed the careering vehicle down the country lanes of South Wales, unsure if the car we were following was indeed going to the event we were due to speak at within the hour.
Eventually the car veered off the road into a car park, where it came to a juddering, and badly parked stop.
We were at the venue. The driver dismounted from their vehicle, with it still being unclear, and marched into the centre.
We knew we were in the right place, not just from this, but from the fact that the ‘South West Wales Goat Club’ were in the room next door!
